Matthew Greeff Safaris
is
the ultimate South African
hunting
experience and based at Gold
Valley Lodge near the famous
Kruger National Park we offer the
discerning hunter the opportunity of experiencing South African
hunting at it's very finest.
With over 40 different species of
game available, South Africa has
more to offer than any other
African country, including the Big
Five and 7 endemic animals only
found here in South Africa. Including
the mountain ranging Grey Rhebuck,
Mountain Reedbuck, Blesbuck and
Black Wildebeest - all found on our
Mpumalanga concessions.
Hunting concessions are held
throughout South Africa, including
the sole hunting rights to some of the
largest hunting areas in the
Mpumalanga Province, thus
ensuring an abundance of quality
Dangerous and Plains game trophies
on ethical fair-chase hunts with
rifle, handgun or bow.
Due to well controlled hunting areas
both private and state owned, trophy
hunting throughout South Africa is
very successful. Over 90% of
trophies taken by hunters with us in
the past 10 seasons have been
record book quality including several
Top Ten entries.
Hunting days are determined by the
amount of animals required and
difficulty of species involved. The
average duration varies between 5 -
14 days, although no minimum days
are required for plains game
species.
Unlike most other African countries,
trophy fees printed, include licences,
except on certain members of the
Big Five family.
Hunting is available throughout the
year due to special exemption
permits allocated to privately owned
game ranches. The months, March
through November are generally
preferred due to the more suitable
climatic conditions and cooler
temperatures.
Due to the proximity of our hunting
concessions to Game Lodges,
Private Reserves and Hotels in the
Mpumalanga Province we also
offer Plains Game Day Hunts.
This opportunity allows for you and
or your group to be collected from
your accommodation and taken on a
Day hunt where you have the
opportunity of experiencing a day of
South African hunting.
Safaris are outfitted and guided by
Matthew Greeff and his team of
experienced professional hunters,
trackers and staff and ensure that
every detail of your safari is
professionally operated.
In addition to Dangerous and Plains
game hunting, Matthew Greeff
Safaris also offers...
BIRD / WING SHOOTING
South Africa has a wide variety of
bird shooting available and seasons
generally run from May to August,
although conditions vary depending
on area and birds available.
Waterfowl such as Spurwing Geese,
Egyptian Geese, Yellow Billed duck,
White Faced Duck and Red Billed
Teal are plentiful.
Helmeted Guinea fowl, several
species of Francolin and Quail are
walked up over trained dogs or can
be taken driven during the day.
Excellent pigeon and dove shooting
on maize and sunflower fields can
also be had.
FISHING
The province of Mpumalanga with
its scenic beauty, crystal clear
mountain streams and diverse fish
species offer some of the finest
fishing available in South Africa,
including introduced Rainbow
Trout, yellowfish, Bass and the
exciting Tigerfish.
A day of guided fishing on one of the
local streams, lakes and dams can
be arranged in advance, and guests
are always welcome to make
enquiries. A variety of spinner rods,
fly rods and conventional equipment
is available for use during your stay.
The Professional
Hunting Industry
in South Africa
Matthew & Sylvia,
You two are great, thanks for
another well organized, fun trip.
I'm sure all the guys had a great
time. We all saw and harvested
some great animals. Phil, Billy,
Tyrone, all the trackers really try
to make you feel at home and
do. You seem to be able to
organise the different hunting
areas and species that make it
so much fun. I am already
looking forward to next year.
Until then, take care.

All You Need to Know
about Hunting in South
Africa
In 1981, the four Provincial Nature
Conservation Departments (Cape,
Natal, Orange Free State and
Transvaal) introduced legislation to
control the hunting, outfitting and
professional hunting industries in
South Africa.
The object of the legislation was to
provide protection for the foreign
hunter in South Africa by setting
standards that would be obligatory
before a hunting outfitter or
professional hunter would be
licensed to operate, and to provide
for the maintenance of these
standards once a license has been
granted.
The Professional Hunters'
Association of South Africa is
firmly established as the
mouthpiece and leading
professional hunting authority in
South Africa. The association is
the largest professional hunters
association in not only Africa, but
also the world. "PHASA" as it is
known by all its members and
those organizations who work
closely with it, has achieved this
stature and recognition by
believing since its establishment
in 1978, that South Africa would
claim its place as "the" hunting
destination in the world.
The main objectives of PHASA
are:
- To foster the conservation of
South Africa's wildlife and flora resources.
- To support proper wildlife
management and utilisation.
- To assist and promote ethical
hunting in South Africa.
- To promote and market hunting
in South Africa.
- To promote high quality
service and ethical standards amongst its members.
South Africa has developed into
an extremely popular hunting
destination in Africa. The critical
success factors being:
- The highly successful
management by the
conservation authorities
in South Africa of
National Provincial Parks.
With approximately 7
million hectares set
aside and managed by
the authorities, an
enormous resource base
of wild animals has been
produced for distribution
throughout the country.
- The above, together with the
philosophy of sustainable use of our natural resources, has seen the
development of some 9000 privately owned game farms covering 17 million
hectares of land.
- The greatest variety of
animals available for hunting in any one country in Africa.
- The high degree of
professionalism set by the
Professional Hunters'
Association of South
Africa (PHASA) and sound
regulations controlling the
professional hunting
industry.
Hunting as a form of tourism
contributes enormously to the
economy of South Africa. Some
70 000 jobs have been created on
game farms and directly from
professional hunting. In the 2001
hunting season, 8000 clients,
inclusive of non-hunters in each
hunting group, hunted in South
Africa, having a total of 53 532
hunting days. This amounts to a
total revenue from daily rates,
animals hunted and taxidermy
work of R960 million.
Gold Valley Lodge, near the town of Nelspruit, is
situated high in the Crocodile
Gorge Mountains on some 3000
acres of unspoiled bush. The
lodge with its magnificent views of
the fabled De Kaap Valley and
Swaziland Escarpment combines
the beauty of the Lowveld with the
luxury of our Lodge.
The excitement and adventures of
the day are equaled by the
peaceful pleasures of the
accommodation. The luxury
bedrooms each have en-suite
bathrooms and mini fridges. Gold
Valley Lodge welcomes families
and has a luxury swimming pool in
the camp.
Dining / entertainment, under
thatch in tranquil surrounding offer
total comfort and privacy. Cuisine
ranges from traditional South
African specialities to venison
dishes created to your liking.
Wonderful evenings are spent
around the fire where excellent
meals, venison and great South
African wines are enjoyed.
