GOLD VALLEY LODGE

South Africa has a wide variety of bird shooting available, especially in our home province of Mpumalanga. Seasons generally run from May to August, although conditions do vary depending on area and species and special pre-season permits / licences can be obtained. These are our winter months and cool weather can be expected in the morning and evenings. By midday temperatures warm-up to the 60 - 70's F+. A suggested clothing / equipment list will be sent to clients prior to Safari.

Waterfowl such as Spurwing Geese, Egyptian Geese, Yellow billed Duck, White Faced Duck and Red Teal are plentiful. Best shooting takes place early mornings and late afternoons between large lakes /dams and maize fields (also over decoys). Helmeted Guinea fowl, 3 species of Francolin and Quail are walked up over trained dogs or can be shot driven during the day. Excellent pigeon and dove shooting on maize and sunflower fields can also be had.

Shotguns in 12 ga or 20 ga are suggested and local ammunition in all sizes are available. 12 ga shotguns are available for hire to those not bringing their own.

Brilliant colours will greet you as you approach Benguerra, an exquisite 10 km long, 5 km wide palm-fringed island in the Bazaruto archipelago. Here, on a bay on the protected northwest side of the island, you will discover tranquil, unspoiled Benguerra Lodge, an exclusive and idyllic place at which you can do as much or as little as you please. Secluded chalets, catering for just 26 guests, merge into the natural Milkwood and Acacia Forest. Each of the thatched chalets, which are built on stilts, with reed walls and wooden floors, has en-suite facilities and a private sea-facing veranda.

Activities include, world-class deep-sea fishing and fly-fishing with the best guides in the business, snorkeling, diving and dhow cruises, castaway picnics and bird-watching.

Regular scheduled flights from Johannesburg Intl. Airport to Vilanculos and fully inclusive flying packages are available with a commercial flight scheduled from Kruger Mpumalanga International, Nelspruit to be available soon.
